Timeless Territories
Mina Campina de Cima, Loulé
As Bright As The Sun / Art Algarve 2009

The exhibition TIMELESS TERRITORIES takes place in the singular space of a rock salt mine located 230 metres deep, 30 metres below sea level. A place usually unfamiliar to the exhibition of contemporary art, and where we have intended to build experimental territories to draw the spectator nearer to unrepeatable situations. The particular features of the space where the exhibition takes place – quietness, depth, silence – are incorporated by the works through which we plunge into a metaphorical dialogue beyond the dimension of time.

The selected artists are the craftspeople of a unique event, and with their works they generate in the spectator an intimate ability of aesthetic enjoyment. Through their works, the space is dissolved and recomposed, shaping artificial paradises and making the immense visual beauty of the images steer the visitor towards a spatial reflexion that moves us to timeless territories.

Works by: Vasco Araújo, Daniel Canogar, Alfredo Jaar, Isaac Julien, Mariko Mori, Berni Searle, Montserrat Soto, Jennifer Steinkamp, Mark Wallinger.
