Martinho da Vila rapidly became one of the most highly respected Brazilian performers. His first album, released in 1969, entitled simply Martinho da Vila, already demonstrated the full range of his talents as both a composer and a musician. Enjoying international recognition as a samba artist, and with several of his compositions recorded abroad, Martinho da Vila is a legitimate representative of Brazilian Popular Music and an eclectic composer, to the extent that he still remains very much a leading figure in this particular musical world at the age of 71.
 
Gilberto Gil has played a major role in the constant modernisation process that Brazilian Popular Music  has undergone. At the age of 67, and with a career as a performer that already spans 43 years, he has developed into a singer, composer and guitarist who is considered to be amongst the most important and respected in the world of Brazilian music. Mention should also be made of his time at the Ministry of Culture, where he accepted the challenge of serving as Brazil’s Minister of Culture for more than 5 years. His talent and curiosity, as well as his firm convictions as a musician and cultural ambassador, make him quite unique. Gilberto Gil is undeniably one of the best and most important musical composers in Brazil.
 
In what promises to be a unique concert, Gilberto Gil and Martinho da Vila will be presenting their complete musical history, in what amounts to a performance of the very best of their work. It will also be the very first time that these two  legendary Brazilian musicians have played together on the same stage in Portugal.
