Artur Pizarro and the Orquestra do Algarve
Artur Pizarro was born in Lisbon in 1968. It was his maternal grandmother, pianist Berta da Nóbrega, who first aroused his taste for piano, and he was further encouraged by his duet partner, Campos Coelho (who studied under Vianna da Motta, Ricardo Viñes and Isidor Philipp). Between 1974 and 1990, Artur Pizarro studied with Sequeira Costa (who was also a pupil of Vianna da Motta, Mark Hamburg, Edwin Fisher, Marguerite Long and Jacques Février). This distinguished lineage introduced Artur Pizarro to the Golden Age of piano and provided him with a comprehensive knowledge of the German and French schools and their repertoires.
